Xfinity & Comcast Authorized Dealer Program Sees Nationwide Termination

What does this mean for the Consumer?

Xfinity is a consumer-facing internet and television brand that was formed in 2010 by Comcast. Even though we have been a service vendor for Xfinity since 2011, Comcast has recently decided to remove all third-party vendors and will be terminating its authorized dealer program.

With Comcast making this decision, there are a few downsides for current Xfinity users. This will create much longer service times since ALL of the call traffic will now start going through the Xfinity hub. Along with that, there are very few local stores, meaning customers could end up spending a good amount of time waiting in line to get assistance from a service representative, or even spending more time waiting on the phone just to talk to another person.

What does this mean for us?

As a result, we regret to announce that Channel Choice will no longer be able to provide Xfinity as a service option moving forward, nor will anyone other than Xfinity themselves. While it is troublesome to drop these services from our belt, as we have enjoyed providing Xfinity as an option of service to our customers, we have recently found that Xfinity’s customer service has been struggling to meet its own expectations based on the reviews seen on Yelp:

Here are just a handful of examples of these reviews:

Anthony from Tucson stated: “Internet problems for 2 weeks because [the] cable that they laid across our street is not buried.  It keeps on getting broken daily by cars and trucks driving over it. Nothing but excuses from Comcast/Xfinity… Impossible to talk to a live person to take care of [the] problem. Just automated customer service.”

J from Tucson stated: “[The] internet goes out and comes back on average once a day, every day. Xfinity claims they are doing work in ‘my area’ but I don’t understand why the Internet has to go out so often…”

Max from Tucson stated: “If you live near the castle adobes area in Tucson, [do] all you can to avoid Comcast. Their infrastructure is ancient, [the] app is broken, service is sub-par, all the typical things you hear about bad cable companies [are] true of the local service here…I hate how often my internet just refuses to work correctly for an hour straight, and after months and months of trying to get Comcast to do something about it, it has only gotten worse…”

Susan from Oceanside, California stated: “We have had almost no service for the past two weeks. Completely out from 7-11 pm when most people are home. We work from home, and this is just impossible. No one to reach on the phone just recorded loops. We pay $200 a [month] for what???  Wish I could give 0 but I will NOT pay for no service.”

Based on these reviews, and with an overall average of 1.5 stars on Yelp, it’s fair to say that their customer service, and their service in general, is not as reliable as formally perceived in the Tucson area. With the ending of the Comcast Authorized Dealer program, this decision might end up hurting Xfinity even more with the potential loss of customers due to the current struggle with customer service in areas like Tucson, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Albuquerque.

What Now?

Our team at Channel Choice really loved giving customers the opportunity to pick Xfinity as their internet service provider. With that being said, if you’re really wanting to use Xfinity still, you will need to contact them directly, as we will no longer be allowed to provide them as an option for services. And with current issues involving their customer service, as a consumer, you need to be aware of how this could affect you if you’re currently using Xfinity or are looking to start.

Nevertheless, with the direction that Comcast has made, Channel Choice still provides many other different services and great deals to customers who are willing to make the switch. We provide television, internet, home security, mobility, and business & hotel services with the lowest prices and most valuable package deals with several different service providers; such options include COX, Century Link, Dish, DirecTV, AT&T Tv, and more!

If you are wanting to switch providers or even if you are simply shopping around or beginning your search for the best deals of service in your area, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at (520)336-9558 or stop by one of our locations to discuss your options.
